Attached is a color map of downtown Albany. It shows the key places involved with our reunion.

It shows the Hampton Inn. Please note we get a free hot breakfast with the rooms. The Friday Oct 2 Van Voorhees buffet dinner and the Sat Oct 3 New Netherland Institute sit down dinner are both at the Hampton Inn.

It shows the New York State Library and Museum. There are 3 New Netherland Institute functions at this Library. They are 1) The Thursday Oct 1 evening Reception (Russell Shorto speaker), the Friday Oct 2 presentations, and the Saturday Oct 3 presentations. Free trolley transportation will be provided to and from the Hampton Inn. The museum is on the same first floor as the presentations so will be easy to visit the museum sometime during the Fri and Sat presentations. Lunch Fri and Sat is own your own.

It shows the First Church of Albany. This church is within a 100 feet of the Hampton Inn. We have arranged for a free guided tour of the church (www.firstchurchinalbany.org) at 4 pm Friday Oct 2. The church historian will conduct the tour and make a presentation.

It shows the Albany Institute of History and Art. For those able to get to Albany by Thursday afternoon Oct 1 we have arranged a 2:15 pm guided tour of this museum. Cost is $8 per person. Free trolley transportation will be provided from the Hampton Inn.

It shows the Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center. This is within walking distance from the Hampton. For those able to get to Albany by Thursday morning we have arranged a 10 am presentation and movie on the history of Albany. This will be free. The Albany Duck Tour (www.albanyaquaducks.com) starts at the Visitors center and we have arranged for an 11 am Duck tour. Price will be $20 per person (regular price is $26). Lunch is on your own.

A few people will be arriving in Albany on Wed Sept 30. For those available we plan to have dinner at the Albany Pump Station Restaurant at 6:30 pm. We will get separate checks and meet in the lobby of the Hampton about 6:15 pm and walk over to the restaurant. It is in the same building as the Visitors center.

Things seem to be pretty well set for our reunion. Should be fun.

We are still waiting for the New Netherland Institute to come out with detailed information and registration forms on the Oct 1-3 Rensselaerswijck Seminar in Albany. As soon as I get some information I will pass it on to you. In the mean time below is what they have on thier web site now.

Seminar XXXII

The NNI has scheduled the 32^nd Rensselaerswijck Seminar "Kiliaen van Rensselaer’s Colonie: The Beginning of European Settlement of the Upper Hudson" from October 1– Saturday October 3, 2009. The Seminar will begin Thursday evening with a lecture by Russell Shorto followed by book signings and a reception. The programs on Friday and Saturday will focus on the Rensselaerswijck patroonship and genealogical resources for tracing one’s Dutch ancestors both here and in the Netherlands. Speakers include Stefan Bielinski, Peter Christoph, Jan Folkerts, Henry Hoff, Nico Plomp, Oliver Rink, Martha Shattuck, Len Tantillo, Janny Venema, and Charles Gehring. As an added attraction, many of the authors of Explorers, Fortunes, and Love Letters: A Window on New Netherland will participate in a roundtable discussion of their current research activities. William ‘Chip’ Reynolds, captain of the Half Moon will be the featured speaker at the New Netherland dinner Saturday evening. In addition to the seminar programs, there will be an opportunity to visit Albany’s First Dutch Reformed Church, participate in an AquaDuck tour of Albany, a guided tour of Hudson River Panorama: 400 Years of History, Art, and Culture, an exhibition at the Albany Institute of History and Art, and view an orientation film on the city of Albany. We hope many family associations will consider having their reunions at this time. We have booked a block of rooms at the Hampton Inn and Suites in downtown Albany for this event. A preliminary program, registration form, room reservation details will be available shortly online and sent by mail to NNI members.
