OK people, things are coming together nicely. Attached here is the Van Voorhees Reunion Oct 2, 2009 Buffet dinner registration form. Note this $45 per person goes to Scott T. Voorhees our President. This form is included in the 28 page Van Voorhees Nieuwsbrief that was mailed to the membership today.

Happily, the details of the New Netherland Institute Rensselaerswijck Seminar are now up on their website, www.nnp.org. You can register with them on line or you can use the mail in registration form attached to this email. Note that this mail in form goes to the New Netherland Insitute and not to Scott. In other words you are going to have to use two stamps (unless you register on line) to register, sorry. The U.S. post office is losing $7 billion a year so they need our help.

You will have to make choices depending on how much time you can devote to this and whether you want to do different things while in Albany. We have some people that will just attend the Van Voorhees buffet dinner on Fri night Oct 2 and nothing else. And we will have some people such as my wife and I and my brother and his wife, and Marilyn and Roy Voshall, and others  that plan to do the whole nine yards--starting with the Thur 10 am Oct 1 Visitors Center presentation and ending with the Sat evening Oct 3 New Netherland sit down Dinner ($65 per person). We don't want anyone to feel bad if they don't have the time to devote to the whole event. The important thing is to get to the Fri night Van Voorhees dinner.

Personally, I am really looking forward to the Rensselaerswijck Seminar presentations (see www.nnp.org). These presentations look really great to me. And the www.nnp.org website does a nice job of spelling out the three day event.

ps I think my wife and I will sign up for the $10 box lunches on Fri and Sat--this will give us more time to socialize and to visit the New York Museum Henry Hudson Exhibit.

This should be an all time great reunion.

We are still waiting for the New Netherland Institute to come out with their 32nd Rensselaerswijck Seminar Registration Form. I'm surprised its not out by now but they must know what they are doing.

The attached article appeared in the July 23, 2009 Schnectady Gazette. The article describes the NY State Museum "1609" exhibit focusing on the neglected impact of the Dutch on NY. [Note from webmaster: The referenced article not "attached", to prevent copyright infringement, please go to the Schnectady Gazette site to read the article.]

The Rensselaerswijck Seminar Thur evening Reception Oct 1, and the Fri and Sat Oct 2 and 3 presentations will be at the NY State Museum so those that sign up for all or part of the Rensselaerswijck Seminar should have time to go thru the "1609" exhibit. I understand its on the same floor (first floor) as the exhibit.

Pictured in the article is Ron Burch, NY State Museum curator. It is interesting to note that Ron Burch and his wife live in the Village of Glen, Montgomery Co., NY which is about 30 miles west of Albany near the Mohawk River. Glen was named Voorheesville for about 60 years, 1800 -1860, after Peter Voorhees (1764-1816). Peter Voorhees built Voorhees Tavern (see page 6) about 1801 and it still stands today. Primarily thru Ron Burch's efforts, Glen is now on the National Historic Registry.
