Searching for Text on 9th Generation CD
Searching for text, including names and numbers, is fairly easy. Here are general instructions for several of the more popular word processing applications and text editors. For details, please consult your user manual or online help feature.
Microsoft Word
- On the Edit menu, click
Find
- In the Find what box, enter the text that you want to search for.
- Select any other options that you want. For help on an option, click the question mark and then click the option.
- Click Find Next. To cancel a search in progress, press ESC.

WordPerfect
- On the Edit menu, click
Find
- In the Find what box, enter the text that you want to search for.
- Select any other options that you want. For help on an option, click the question mark and then click the option.
- Click Find Next. To cancel a search in progress, press ESC.

Adobe Acrobat
- To find a word or phrase using the Find command, click the Find button (binoculars icon), or choose Edit>Find.
- Enter the text (or numbers) to find in the text box.
- Select search options if necessary.
- Match Whole Word Only finds only occurrences of the complete word you enter in the text box. For example, if you search for the word stick, the words tick and sticky will not be highlighted.
- Match Case finds only words that contain exactly the same capitalization you enter in the text box.
- Find Backwards starts the search from the current page and goes backward through the document.
- Click Find. Acrobat finds the first occurrence of the word.
- To find the next occurrence of the word, do one of the following:
- Choose Edit>Find again
- Reopen the Find dialog box, and click Find again. (The word must already be in the Find text box.)

The format of the various indexes will vary somewhat. Before searching an index, study the first few pages of that index to get a feel for the format used. This will greatly aid in searching that index.
